Items and weapons that destroy structures serve the same purpose as the decision to make the final few circles move into a random direction and distance: to prevent the kind of boring stalemate-y type of play we saw in the early seasons of Fortnite, where people built huge towers in the center of the final circle and then sat in them, not doing anything, and a sniper rifle was a must-have. The portable rift is another item that allows players to break such "sieges". I wish people would stop whining and stop acting as if building a tower is such an amazing skill. Funnily, I know people who play other shooters but hate Fortnite who say Fortnite takes no skill_ because_ "you can always just build a wall when someone is shooting at you".
